Silk Organza

6–8mm momme

Silk Organza silk scarf

Organza is a thin, plain-weave, sheer silk with a crisp, structured hand — traditionally woven for millennia, including along the Yangtze River and in Zhejiang province. It is mainly used for bridal and evening wear, and in scarves it lends a delicate, sculptural quality perfect for special-occasion pieces and gift packaging.

Organza for Structured Occasion Pieces

Silk organza is a specialist choice for crisp, sheer scarves and gift-led pieces that benefit from structure. It can create a sculptural fold, layered effect or formal presentation for bridal, eveningwear, event and special-occasion programs. The fabric is less forgiving of bulky labels and rough packaging, so the sample should include the planned label position, edge treatment and box or sleeve. Because the hand is firmer than charmeuse or crepe de chine, artwork and border proportions should be reviewed on the finished format rather than only on a flat digital proof.

Customise in Silk Organza

Organza on a printed scarf

Organza is a thin, plain-weave, sheer silk with a crisp and structured hand — quite unlike every other fabric in the range. Where chiffon falls and georgette springs, organza holds a shape. A fold stays where it is put, and an edge reads as a line rather than a soft curve.

That structure is why organza is a specialist choice. It is used for scarves that need to stand away from the body, for layered effects, and for gift-led pieces where the presentation carries as much weight as the wear. It is also the least forgiving fabric in the range: a bulky label or rough packing shows immediately on a crisp, sheer cloth.

Because the hand is firmer, artwork proportions behave differently than they do on a flat proof. Borders and motifs should be judged on the finished format, where the stiffness of the cloth changes how a printed edge reads.

Specification

The table below is what a quotation is built from. Fixing these lines before you compare supplier quotes is what makes two quotes comparable.

SpecificationThis fabricWhat it changes
Momme6–8mmMomme is weight. More weight means more raw silk in the same scarf, so it moves the unit cost more than any other single line.
PrintingDigital printing · screen printingThe crisp surface holds print cleanly and reproduces fine detail well. Because the cloth is sheer and structured, printed edges read as hard lines — judge border proportions on the finished format.
Edge finishHand rolled and hand stitched · machine hemThe hem treatment shows clearly on organza because the cloth is crisp and sheer. Fix the hem width before sampling, and check that labels sit flat rather than distorting the cloth.
Format90×90cm · 53×53cm · 36×36cm · neck scarf · bandana · pocket squareThe 53×53cm and 36×36cm formats suit organza best, along with gift-led pieces. A 90×90cm organza square is very sculptural and is chosen for effect.
PackingIndividual bag · branded box · carton markPacking is quoted as its own line so that it does not disappear inside the unit price.

How organza compares

WeaveMommeHandChoose it when
Organza6–8Crisp, sheer, structuredThe scarf should hold a shape or read as a formal presentation piece.
Chiffon5–8Soft, sheer, fluidThe scarf should move and layer softly rather than hold a form.
Georgette8–12Sheer but springyYou want sheer with more body, and the scarf should still drape.

Organza is the fabric in the range that changes most between a flat proof and a finished piece. A physical sample is worth more here than on any other weave.

Buyer questions

What makes organza different from chiffon?

The hand. Both are sheer, but organza is crisp and holds a shape, while chiffon is soft and fluids. Structurally they are different weaves, and the finished scarves behave in opposite ways.

Can organza be used for a wearable scarf?

It can, and it is most often chosen for occasion and gift pieces rather than daily wear, because the crisp hand is part of the design rather than something to wear against the neck all day.

Does organza print well?

Yes. The surface holds print cleanly and fine detail reproduces well. The thing to watch is printed edges — on a crisp, sheer cloth a printed border reads as a hard line, so proportions should be judged on the finished format.

Which formats suit organza?

The smaller formats — 53×53cm and 36×36cm — suit the fabric best, along with gift-led pieces. Tell us at quotation stage how the piece will be presented, because that changes how it is folded and packed.

Minimum order, artwork and lead times

Minimum order is 100 pieces per design. A programme using several designs is quoted as several minimums, because each one is printed and finished separately.

You send whatever you have — artwork, a logo file, a reference, a brand guide, or an idea. We set the repeat, the layout and the hem allowance for your chosen format in organza, and send a digital proof. Nothing is printed until you approve it. Artwork development is part of the project rather than a separate charge.

A physical sample is then printed and finished on the fabric you have chosen, and bulk production follows the approved sample. Bulk runs about 3 weeks after approval.

  • What to send us: artwork or a logo file, the format, the quantity, and the fabric weight you want.
  • What we send back: a digital proof, then a physical sample on your chosen fabric and edge finish.
  • What we need before bulk: artwork approval, sample approval, and the packing method.
  • What travels with the order: photographs of the finished scarves before they ship.
